UPDATED CALL TO ARTISTS (deadline extension and show date change):
We are currently accepting submissions for our FIRST juried pop-up exhibition, Sense of Place, which will be exhibited Thursday, August 18th, 2016 during the Third Thursday Artwalk at the 1120 Creative House. Open to any visual artist currently living in Tacoma and surrounding areas.
Utilizing the dimensions of a postcard (4 x 6 inches), Sense of Place explores personal and cultural histories within the context of individual lived experiences of being a Tacoma resident. By creating tangible and familiar objects that spark nostalgic feelings of home, these works act as a unifying catalyst that bridges our diverse, personal experiences together.
Postcards are the focus of Sense of Place because it is a time-tested method of communicating personal messages to loved ones. With the accessibility and personal disconnect technology has given our society, messages lose reverence and intimacy. Through this exhibition, we invite the artist to revisit the ritualistic process of creating and sending a personal message from oneself to the community.
Works created for this exhibition need to be made either on a postcard, or be of a standard postcard size (4 x 6 inches). The orientation may be either horizontal or vertical, and any medium of your choosing. The ONLY requirement for this show is that works are 4 x 6 inches - works can be created on paper, wood, glass panel, recycled fabric, a slice of bread...ANYTHING!
If interested, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with “Sense of Place - YOUR NAME” in the subject header by Saturday, May 14th.
